May puzzle recommendations (not to be missed!)
I design a ton of puzzles. Just this month, I’ve already created 2 new games, and I’m working on a bunch of other cool secret projects. (Psst. Follow @museumofcrypticart on Instagram for some fun stuff coming very soon!)
But today’s newsletter is not about me. Rather, there are some truly phenomenal tabletop puzzle games and an in-person puzzle-centric experience designed by talented friends and colleagues that I’m excited to share with you all. Some of these are quite time-sensitive, so grab your copies and tickets now while you still can!
Threads of Fate - PostCurious
PostCurious’s brilliant puzzletale Threads of Fate is the long-awaited remaster of The Tale of Ord — and there’s less than a day left to pick up your copy on Kickstarter!
If you've played any of the PostCurious games (including The Light in the Mist, The Emerald Flame, and Adrift), you'll know that they are the absolute top tier of narrative-driven tabletop puzzle experiences, with gorgeous physical components, unexpected tactile interactions, and compelling stories.
As an added bonus, if you help the campaign get past $200k, all backers will unlock a stretch goal of a cute little squirrel enamel pin 🐿️
The Order of the Golden Scribe
If you enjoy any combination of puzzles, tea, immersive theater, and secret societies and are in proximity to NYC, I highly recommend checking out The Order of the Golden Scribe. I attended this delightful show during their initial sold-out run back in February, and they’re remounting the show over the next 3 weekends.
If that wasn’t enough to convince you, you can grab steeply discounted $75 tickets for this Friday, Saturday, and Sunday with the promo code “openingweekend” or promo code “99tix” for $99 tickets for the rest of the run.
The Medusa Report - Diorama
Another top-notch tabletop puzzle game is launching soon — The Medusa Report is the sequel to award-winning Dutch masterpiece The Vandermist Dossier (read my REA review here.)
I had the absolute pleasure of playing a preview copy of The Medusa Report last night, and this game is mind-blowingly clever and polished, with some of the most satisfying visual ahas of anything I’ve seen (and I’ve seen a lot!) And at ~1.5 hours of playtime for the core game (plus an optional bonus puzzle arc), it’s a smaller commitment than some of the other tabletop puzzle games out there.
Their Kickstarter is launching in a couple of weeks, and you can follow along now to get notified as soon as things kick off.
Happy puzzling!
Matthew
